Marilyn Kienitz, 77, of Michigan City, IN, went to her eternal home with Jesus, her Savior, on Thursday, April 9, 2020, surrounded by family and friends at her residence in Michigan City.
Marilyn was born June 11, 1942, in Michigan City, IN, to the late Louis and Esther (Klemz) Kienitz. A sister, Kathleen Kienitz Zimmerman, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her brothers, Alan Kienitz of St. Cloud, FL, and Neil (Naomi) Kienitz of Michigan City; brother-in-law Robert Zimmerman of Ontario; three nephews, Timothy Zimmerman of Alberta, Paul Zimmerman of Ontario, and Michael (Melanie) Zimmerman of Prince Edward Island; as well as five great nieces and nephews.
Marilyn worked as a computer programmer for many years at the Chicago-Tokyo Bank and often played chess with friends during her commute on the South Shore train. At one point in her life she was ranked the top female chess player in Indiana. She enjoyed tennis and softball and had a great love for animals and birds. Her family and friends were very special to her, and she baked the best Christmas cookies in town for them.
Cremation has taken place, and a service celebrating Marilyn’s life in Jesus Christ will be held at a later date due to the Covid-19 virus. Please check back at this site for updated information regarding the celebration.
