MARIA A. BAMIAGIS, age 65 of East Chicago, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.
She is survived by her husband Spiros Bamiatzis of 41 years; son Alex (Kristin Oberlander) Bamiagis; daughter Sophia Ourania Bamiatzis; mother Josefina Cavazos; siblings: Lorenzo (Nancy) Cavazos, Cynthia (John) Schuyler, Steve (Vilma) Cavazos, Lourdes (Roberto) Cisneros; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by father Margarito Cavazos.
Maria was a graduate of East Chicago Washington High School, Class of 1969. She received an undergraduate degree from Ball State University, where she was selected as a Fulbright Scholar. She then graduated from Indiana University Northwest with a Masters degree in Education. She also earned a second Masters degree in Educational Diagnostics from St. Thomas University in Houston, TX. She then went on to teach several grades at many schools across the country. Maria enjoyed dancing, cooking, reading, listening to Motown music, shopping, helping her students, and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends.

Franciscan Dr., Crown Point (south of St. Rd. 231 on St. Rd. 55) on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a Trisagion service at 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be Monday, February 22, 2016 beginning at 9:00 a.m. from Pruzin & Little Chapel with funeral services following at 10:00 a.m. with Rev.
