Linda K. Vanhoy, age 76, passed peacefully in Michigan City, Indiana on January 7, 2022. She was born on April 7, 1945, to Curtis and Faye (Batchelor) Vanhoy in Vincennes, Indiana. The family moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, where Linda graduated from Wiley High School in 1963 and Indiana State University with a B.S. in English in 1967. In 1969, she earned a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Indiana State University. After teaching at Rockville, Indiana, she moved to Indianapolis and taught English at Arlington High School, Manual High School, and Broad Ripple High School. She also earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Indiana University School of Law. She practiced law for a short time but her heart was in the high school classroom where she spent the majority of her professional career. As an avid supporter of nature, she loved taking walks in local, state, and national parks. A talented artist, she also painted landscapes, gardens, plants, and animals. She enjoyed her cats.
Linda had been a member of Indiana State Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and National Wildlife Federation. She was a faithful member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Indianapolis where she helped with programs for children and United Methodist Women. She continued her mother’s legacy of always helping those in need with her volunteerism. She enjoyed following the Colts and musical programs especially summer concerts in the park. She would play cards and board games with her life-long friends, Anne, Carolyn, and Patty.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill. Survivors include sister-in-law, Kay Vanhoy in Delaware; brother, Don (Darlene) Vanhoy in Michigan City; nephews, Roger, Bruce, Mark, and families; and niece, Karen and her family.
Arrangements were entrusted with Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington Street, Michigan City. Indiana 46360. A private family burial in Loogootee, Indiana. A Celebration of Life will be in the spring.
