Katherine M. Walter nee Huber, age 95, a lifelong resident and business woman of Crown Point, IN passed away peacefully in the care of her family, Saturday, June 26, 2004. Katherine is survived by her loving Daughter and Son-in-law: Mary Kay & Joe Rowe of Fort Wayne, IN Treasured Grandson: Matthew Rowe of Fort Wayne, IN Devoted Nephew: John Dockus of Crown Point Sister-in-law: Catherine Huber of Crown Point Many other nieces and nephews and Close Friends She was preceded in Death by: Father and Mother: Edward & Katherine Gerlach Huber Her Husband: Louis and Son: Gerard Brother: Edwin “Sonny” Huber Sister: Mildred A. “Millie” Dockus Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 10:30 AM from Geisen Funeral Home and at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Myron Lowisz and Fr. Pat Kalich concelebrating. Interment will be at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN Friends may call at Geisen Funeral Home, 109 N. East St., Crown Point on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. St. Anthony Auxiliary Service at 3:30 PM, Vigil Service at 4:00 PM, Altar & Rosary Sodality Service at 4:30 PM. Katherine achieved fourteen years of education including two years of college training in business. She worked for many years as a business associate with Household Finance after which she became a jourrnalist specializing in wedding stories for the orginial Crown Point Register newspaper and later for the Crown Point Star Register newspaper. She served as Society Editor of the paper until she retired at the age of 70. Katherine then continued being an active part of her community by keeping up her volunteer work with the Saint Anthony Medical Center Auxiliary of which she was a charter member with service for about 15 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, once serving as its President and was also a member of the Women's Catholic Society of Foresters. Katherine found comfort and solace in her final days in the loving care of her daughter, Mary Kay her only grandson Matthew, her son-in-law Joe, her nephew John and her dedicated caregivers: Via Mayfield, Betty White, Kathy Hanlon, Dianna Artibey and Sheila Madison. Her longtime friend Leona James of Griffith, IN provided many occasions of pleasant conversation for Katherine for over 70 years. Contributions for masses for the repose of the soul of Katherine or flowers in her memory may be presented to Geisen Funeral Home.
