June Bartels

June 3, 1923 - April 23, 2020

June A. Bartels (Sonnenberg) of Frankenmuth, MI formerly of Michigan City, IN went home to her Lord on April 23, 2020 at her home in Winter Village, Frankenmuth, MI, age 96 years.

 

June Sonnenberg was born on June 3, 1923 in Michigan City, IN to Edward Sr. and Augusta (Krieger) Sonnenberg who preceded her in death.  She was married to William G. Bartels on July 7, 1945 who survives.  She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.  She loved her church work, where she was active in the Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Sunday School, and choir.  She was employed by NIPSCO as a company representative.  She also loved knitting and crocheting and reading.

 

June is survived by two daughters:  Beverly (Lloyd) Nobis and Janet Beyer;  grandchildren:  Christine Nelson, Brenda (Aaron) Tuggle, Stephanie (Ricardo) Resio, Kevin (Brendi) Nobis, Stacy (Keith) Yonan, Benjamin (Kathi) Beyer, and Joanna (David) Lehman;  19 great grandchildren;  and a brother Edward Sonnenberg Jr.  She was preceded in death by sisters:  Adelcy Hauch and Roselea Olmstead and brothers:  Louis Sonnenberg, Richard Sonnenberg, and Irvin Sonnenberg and grandson-in-law:  Donald Nelson.

 

Due to COVID 19 restrictions a memorial service will take place later on a date to be determined.  Direct Entombment will take place at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Michigan City and will be handled by Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City, IN  46360.

 

The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
