Joshua “Josh” G. Summerlin, age 25, of Westville, IN passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020. He was born May 4, 1995 in Michigan City, IN.

Josh is survived by his mother: Theresa (Wayne) Goeman and father: Greg (Becky) Summerlin; “Second Mom” Michelle Christopherson; sister: Kristina (Chad) Summerlin; step-brother: Tyler (Hannah) Goeman; step-sisters: Emily Goeman, Jenna Bryant; step-brother: Hayden Heffron; nephew: Ace Smith and niece: Ayla Smith; grandparents: Paula Baranowski and Ed Summerlin, Lucky Lindsey, Theresa Rife and Alfred and Judy Goeman; uncles: Jeff (Kathy) Summerlin, Larry (Lisa) Lindsey and Brian Lindsey; best friends: Curtis Christopherson and Alex Mahaffey; special friends: Steve and Juanita Middleton; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents: Wanda Lindsey, Jane Heffron, and George Baranowski; great-grandmothers: Aleen Shaver and Mildred Summerlin.

Josh enjoyed music, many types of sports and reading. He was fluent in Japanese and loved the culture and language. His dog, Haiku, who preceded him in death was loved by him.

Due to CDC guidelines regarding Covid-19 and the health of our community, limited visitation for Josh will be held on Friday, May 29, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home located at 613 Washington St. Michigan City, IN. Visitation will be limited at any one-time, social distancing at 6 feet and face masks will be required.

Funeral Service will take place on Friday, May 29, 2020 at 12:00 Noon at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home with Pastor Fields officiating. Services will conclude at the Funeral Home and cremation will follow. A time of food and fellowship will take place at a later date due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Josh may be given to the Michiana Humane Society.

Kristina, I am thinking about you right now. You and I have always been cool although Josh never hung out with us, I can't even imagine what you must be going through losing Josh like this. Forever in our hearts.

A special son born to a special woman. An Angel has his wings.

I met Josh when I was probably around 16 years old. I was at a friend's house sleeping and my friend invited him over before I woke up, when I woke up I saw Josh sitting at the end of the bed on his phone and the first thing I said to him was "who the heck are you" he just laughed and said jsumms and I guess the rest was history. We started hanging out all the time together and eventually everyday for a very long time. We used to go on long car rides and he would always show me new music he loved and he would show me how good he was at doing vocals for heavy metal music and I would always laugh and try to do it with him. We would talk about life and just drive around and it didn't matter where we went it was always so fun. He sat with me through my first panic attack until 7am and talked me through it and held me and made sure I felt comfortable and safe. I gave him the nickname Squash, idk why I just thought it was so funny. I loved him so much and once we started getting older we didn't hang out as much but we never lost touch. I am heartbroken. The last thing I said to him was that I loved him but that doesn't make it better. I will love and miss you forever squash you will be in my mind for the rest of my life

I'm so sorry for your loss. I was honored to know Josh by working with him. He had a big heart and so many that met him loved him. He always talked of his family especially the love for his mom. I will always remember you Josh and your laugh with that big smile.

I miss you Josh! I'll remember the long talks we had at school, and everytime we saw eachother it was like we never skipped a beat. I wish we stayed in contact more. Im so sorry this has happened. I'll never forget going to warped tour with you that was an awesome day for sure! Rest easy friend... ❤

I met josh in 9th grade. I had barley any friends. Not longer then that we become best friends and he invited me to meet his friend group. We all bonded since then going to music concerts. Hanging out at skateparks. Hanging out at the beach for hours on end. I started making music and Josh supported me every single second of the way. Josh helped me so much in life from jobs and just everything. I lost a brother and im not happy. And i don't think i ever will be in the slightest. I can move on but i can't accept that i lost someone who i claimed to be my brother from another mother. Long Live Josh's memories and energy. Rest in paradise his mind and soul.
