John Patrick Flynn, 91, of Highland and Beverly Shores, IN passed away in his sleep on Friday, January 2, 2015. He is survived by his son, James Flynn of Beverly Shores, IN; his nieces, Georgene Koulianos of Cedar Lake, IN, Catherine Flynn of Crown Point, IN and Virginia (Sean) Faughnan of Sparkill, NY; his nephew, Christopher (Janet) Dremonas of Wilmington, NC; and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, James (Margaret) Flynn of the Bronx, NY, Peggy (Salvatore) Rizzitello of Tuckahoe, NY and Cecelia (James) Tsikinis of New York City, NY; his wife, Adele Flynn (nee Hanula); and his subsequent companion of 10 years, Jacqueline Henry of Highland, IN. Pat was born in “Hell’s Kitchen” in New York City; raised at Saint Joseph’s Home in Peekskill, NY; and returned to Manhattan at the age of 18. After being employed as a “band boy” for Jerry Wald and his Orchestra, he adventured his way across the United States, finally living in San Diego, CA, where he worked on bomber construction at Consolidated Vultee during World War II. After the war, he travelled throughout the Middle East and South America, where he worked on a number of industrial construction projects, including the Trans-Arabian Pipeline. He ultimately settled in Northwest Indiana, where he became Director of Purchasing for Morrison Construction Company in Hammond, IN. Throughout his life, Pat was an avid golfer, playing just about every course that crossed his path. He played regularly almost up to his death, and most enjoyed golf with his buddies at the Wicker Memorial Park Golf Course in Highland, IN and the Isla Del Sol Country Club in St. Petersburg, FL. Visitation will be held before the funeral service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 9009 Kennedy Avenue, Highland, IN. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with Rev. Eric Kleinschmidt officiating. Burial will directly follow at Concordia Cemetery, Hammond, IN.
