John Jurcik

John D. Jurcik Sr. age 86 of Merrillville passed away peacefully on Sunday January 9 2011. He was born December 30 1924 in Gary Indiana and graduated from Tolleston High School in 1943. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna Jurcik children: Judy Thomas Michael and John Jr. grandchild Tony Rongers. Survived by his sister Pauline Zandoli of Brooklyn New York Daughters Linda (Paul) Patton of Valparaiso and Patricia (Walt) McLaughlin of Merrillville and Daughter-in-law Penny Golden of Hebron 22 grandchildren 17 great grandchildren two great great-grandchildren nieces and nephews. John was a WWII Army Veteran having served as a medic in North Africa and Italy. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 430 and VFW Post #1563. John retired from Inland Steel after 35 years as an electrician. He loved fishing singing reading the newspaper looking up words in the dictionary and rigging up things. He and his wife were Notre Dame fans holding football season tickets for over 30 years. Together they loved camping with their family. Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service 6360 Broadway Merrillville on Wednesday January 12th from 2:00 8:00 p.m. Legion service 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday January 13 2011 from Pruzin Brothers Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Tina Rongers officiating. Burial at Calvary Cemetery Portage with full military honors.
