JOANIE (ELLISON) STRINGER (nee Pujo), age 81 of Portage, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018.
She is survived by husband Leonard “Lenny” Stringer; two daughters: Jeri (Joseph) Djokic, Jeannene York; grandchildren Nikola (Kathleen) & Christina Djokic; two brothers: Ned (late Kim) Pujo, Donald Pujo; three sisters: Angeline (late Rudy) Rujevcan, Ruth (late Milan) Radjen, Ann Marie Pujo, and her many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by son Michael Ellison; brothers Rodomer, Risto, baby Risto Pujo; and sister Radmila Jackovich.
Joan grew up in Gary, Indiana and was a member of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, the church choir, and was a former Sunday School Teacher there. She was a graduate of Emerson High School, and a retired clerical worker/griever at Gary Works, U.S. Steel with 20 years of service. Joan was also very involved in Portage politics, where she helped campaign for several candidates over the years.
Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service (2700 Willowcreek Rd., Portage) on Sunday from 2:00-6:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel with Rev. Tom Shanahan officiating. At rest McCool Cemetery.
