Dr. Joan Louise Sohaney, age 88, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; parents: Anna and Joseph Swentko; grandparents: Susan and Michael Medvid; and sister, Betty Swentko.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 101 W. Burrell Dr., Crown Point, IN 46307 with Fr. James Wozniak officiating. Interment to follow at St. John-St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Hammond, IN.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing at 6 feet and face masks will be required; lounge and reception areas are closed, so food donations are not being accepted.

I still miss you. Loved writing back and forth, visiting when I lived nearby, chatting on the phone. I will never understand why my youngest sister neglected for months to tell me you had died. Idk why I wasn't contacted. Breaks my heart.

I now know why I never received return letters from you the last month. I am so very sorry you are gone. I remember the wonderful time when I was 6 years old and I got to come spend the week end at your home. You taking me to all your regular shops to introduce me to your friends. Sitting and watching you get your hair done and finding cracker jacks on the dresser every morning. I remember visiting your home with my Children. You visiting my parent's home during the holidays and birthdays when I was a child. You are my Godmother and my namesake and a part of me is now missing. May you rest in peace with the angels. You will be missed. I love you. xoxo
