Rick, You have my very deepest sympathy. Jean was such a wonderful person! I remember at Purdue when we were roommates how she was always so friendly to me. It just seemed as if there were ever two people meant for each other it was you and Jean. Just to bring back a fond and fun memory, remember when we raided her sorority out at the Acres? It was the all-time greatest ever!!! And it only happened because of Jean. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and know she will be forever missed. With heartfelt sympathy, Smitty '74

Jean was such a ray of light with a gentle spirit and beautiful smile. Her eyes sparkled when you spoke with her like she was eager to hear what you had to say. As I'm writing this, it is so easy for me to picture that look on her face. She was grace and kindness personified. We consider ourselves blessed to have walked with Jean at points along on our life journeys, and we have no doubt that many more people feel the same way. What a beautiful family she has to carry on for her. Our deepest sympathy to all of you.
Tom Anderson left a message on May 17, 2020:
Rick and Family, I just finished watching the video of yesterday’s service honoring Jean. It is a sad day for sure but I was particularly touched by Rick’s description of his life with Jean. Over the years Rick and I have been on many fishing trips together where he would speak of the history between he and Jean and their shared values. Yes, guys do talk about their wives and families on guy trips. Being surrounded by family and friends and knowing you are much loved at the time of passing is a wonderful testimony to a life well lived. Jean is much loved and will be missed but her influence and example will live on, of this I have no doubt. What a beautiful service, what a beautiful family. Be at peace.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
Lindsay Eastman left a message on May 17, 2020:
Rick-while it’s been over 45 years since I last spoke with you and your beautiful wife-then girlfriend Jean— My memory of the two of you brings nothing but warmth and everlasting love to my heart. The 2 of you and everything that you both together stood for is why my memories of Phi Gamma Delta are as strong today as they were over 45 years ago. A truly inspirational couple—a truly beautiful, loving, caring woman that God blessed you, your family and your friends with forever. Please know my Families deepest sympathies and condolences are lovingly sent to you Rick and to your your family. Lindsay Pergé
Bruce White left a message on May 16, 2020:
Jean and Rick, individually and collectively, were the absolute best CPHS class of 1971 had to offer. Jean’s passing is a tremendous loss to her family, friends and her community. I will always look to Jean’s example for guidance and as an example of how a fully developed person leads their life to nurture and inspire others. I was privileged to sit directly in front fo Jean for most classes from the 7th to the 12th grade. My heart goes out to Rick and the entire Oliver family.

Our most sincere condolences to you, Rick, and the family. Jean was a woman whose heart touched so many people. The moment you met her you felt somewhat lighter. You never left her presence without a song in your heart. Her gentle kindness has made us all better people. What a legacy she has left all of us!
Mike and Judy Brandt left a message on May 16, 2020:
Rick and Family: Our thoughts are with you at this time. Jean was such a sweet spirit, as were you, when we spent a few Sundays in the 'crow's nest' at the old Presbyterian Church in Crown Point, with Clinton (and Deb) Roberts in the pulpit. Judy was just recalling meeting Jean when they attended a bible study at Janice Kosiba's, and how kind and friendly she was. May you and your family be comforted during this time of loss. Mike and Judy Brandt

Dear Rick and family, Jean was the best example of the very best life has to offer. Best wife, mother, friend, but most of all the best example of Christ's love to all she met. She radiated kindness. She was the kind of friend that time and distance didn't separate your friendship. You always knew you could pick up right where you left off. She certainly has left her mark of love in my life. A genuine legacy of love that few have attained. Love and fervent prayers to each of you!

Dawn McKee Harshbarger left a message on May 15, 2020:
I met Jean in the 7th grade. We shared nearly every class together. Jean quickly became on of the first true and deep friendships I had with anyone. If anyone saw either of us without the other they thought something was wrong. Teachers would say that we were "joined at the hip". We did everything together. We decided to join the band. We were both so tall that we had to be together and next to each other in "Cadets". I remember the slumber parties she would have where I made so many other good friends. She was so very smart. So kind with a gentle soul. She gave me so many gifts that never came wrapped nor did I realize at the time in my young life. She was a Giver in this world. Regrets that we did not stay connected once we started our lives after school. I would hear about her life from my brother, Bruce, who works for Refax; the good times and the sad times. We've lost a Good One. But her gifts will keep on giving.

Sha-Ron Jackson-Johnson left a message on May 14, 2020:
Sometime last year, Jean walked up to me after church and introduced herself. She told me how pretty Sissy looked as she wriggled and whined on my hip. She gave me a knowing look, mentioned her large brood and admonished me that "they grow up so quickly". She introduced me to the idea of planting flowers at the church and later told me that she was proud of what the team and I had been able to do at the Children's Church entrance. She was truly a great encourager! I had the pleasure of working with her on the church Christmas decorations. Her eyes would dance behind her brilliant smile when talking about how best to reflect the joy of Christ during the season. She would send detailed text messages to rally her troops and then guiding us in getting the actual job done. I remember wanting to put Christmas lights on the cross. What a goofy idea, and she certainly could have shot it immediately out of the air. She didnt. She paused. Considered. She reminded me that the wooden cross in our sanctuary would be the centerpiece for Easter in the Spring. She was so gracious. I immediately blushed because she was right, BUT my feelings weren't hurt because Jean handled others with grace. In the short time that I knew her, that was a consist piece of her persona. Great grace. As we continue on without her in this life, may we honor her legacy as a woman of God by being slow to speak, quick to listen and steadfast in demonstrations of love. I will miss you sweet Jean. Until we meet again somewhere around God's altar!
