Jean Wille Oliver passed away on May 11, 2020 after gracefully and unwaveringly fighting breast cancer for nearly twenty years.
Jean is survived by the one and only love of her life, Richard Oliver, Sr.; her three children – Kristin (Treavor) Mahle, Rebecca (Robert) Alm and Rick Jr. (Ashlee) Oliver; her seven grandchildren – Mason, Alivia, Katie, Flint, Evan, Annabelle and Penny Jean. She is also survived by siblings: Jan (Paul) Hoffman and John (Sue) Wille. Jean was also a loving sister-in-law to Lynn, Keith, Mary, Hansel, Ruth, Mike and Carol, as well as an extraordinary aunt to numerous nephews and nieces.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents Clara and Clarence Wille.
Growing up in Crown Point, Jean was computer matched with Rick during a dance their 9th grade year at Taft Junior High. Thus, beginning their love story which spanned well over 50 years, celebrating their 46th wedding anniversary December 29, 2019. Jean was always an encouraging, dedicated mother, with her children completely knowing how much they were loved. As the family began to grow, this love was unconditionally extended to the sons and daughter who married her children. She was an intentional “Jeama” to her grandchildren creating unique traditions they will hold in their hearts forever.
She valued individuality which was shown by her frequently finding ways to make others feel special -whether it was the perfect gift, a well-timed call, meticulous planning of the 10 year old trips with her grandchildren, words of encouragement or simply listening, finding the right book for each member of her family at Christmas, or taking a day just to celebrate you.
Jean embodied grace, which came as naturally to her as breathing. She was determined, intelligent and kind. She was almost effortless in her ability to face challenges that would cause others to crumble. She never waivered in her faith, and during times where it would seem she needed comfort you always found her caring for you. If you were blessed enough to know Jean, you knew you met a truly authentic person. A woman who walked her faith, loved her family and faced each day with her bright smile. Jean will be so impossibly missed by all who knew her.
Jean was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority while attending Purdue University receiving her Nursing degree. She and Rick were faithful Purdue fans hosting unforgettable football tailgates and attending countless basketball games. She previously attended the First Presbyterian Church Crown Point, and currently attended Bethel Church Gary. Jean was an active member of the Indiana Dunes Great Banquet community and relished in keeping a social calendar that would cause most people’s head to spin.
Due to current conditions surrounding the pandemic the visitation and funeral services are private. However, the funeral can be viewed live on Facebook via Geisen Funeral Home on Saturday, May 16th at 11 am. The family will plan a celebration of life at a later date for all who loved her to attend.

I just finished watching the video of yesterday’s service honoring Jean. It is a sad day for sure but I was particularly touched by Rick’s description of his life with Jean. Over the years Rick and I have been on many fishing trips together where he would speak of the history between he and Jean and their shared values. Yes, guys do talk about their wives and families on guy trips. Being surrounded by family and friends and knowing you are much loved at the time of passing is a wonderful testimony to a life well lived. Jean is much loved and will be missed but her influence and example will live on, of this I have no doubt. What a beautiful service, what a beautiful family. Be at peace.

Sometime last year, Jean walked up to me after church and introduced herself. She told me how pretty Sissy looked as she wriggled and whined on my hip. She gave me a knowing look, mentioned her large brood and admonished me that "they grow up so quickly". She introduced me to the idea of planting flowers at the church and later told me that she was proud of what the team and I had been able to do at the Children's Church entrance. She was truly a great encourager! I had the pleasure of working with her on the church Christmas decorations. Her eyes would dance behind her brilliant smile when talking about how best to reflect the joy of Christ during the season. She would send detailed text messages to rally her troops and then guiding us in getting the actual job done. I remember wanting to put Christmas lights on the cross. What a goofy idea, and she certainly could have shot it immediately out of the air. She didnt. She paused. Considered. She reminded me that the wooden cross in our sanctuary would be the centerpiece for Easter in the Spring. She was so gracious. I immediately blushed because she was right, BUT my feelings weren't hurt because Jean handled others with grace. In the short time that I knew her, that was a consist piece of her persona. Great grace. As we continue on without her in this life, may we honor her legacy as a woman of God by being slow to speak, quick to listen and steadfast in demonstrations of love. I will miss you sweet Jean. Until we meet again somewhere around God's altar!

I just finished watching the video of yesterday’s service honoring Jean. It is a sad day for sure but I was particularly touched by Rick’s description of his life with Jean. Over the years Rick and I have been on many fishing trips together where he would speak of the history between he and Jean and their shared values. Yes, guys do talk about their wives and families on guy trips. Being surrounded by family and friends and knowing you are much loved at the time of passing is a wonderful testimony to a life well lived. Jean is much loved and will be missed but her influence and example will live on, of this I have no doubt. What a beautiful service, what a beautiful family. Be at peace.

Jean and Rick, individually and collectively, were the absolute best CPHS class of 1971 had to offer. Jean’s passing is a tremendous loss to her family, friends and her community. We were both so tall that we had to be together and next to each other in "Cadets". I remember the slumber parties she would have where I made so many other good friends.
She was so very smart. So kind with a gentle soul. She gave me so many gifts that never came wrapped nor did I realize at the time in my young life. She was a Giver in this world. Regrets that we did not stay connected once we started our lives after school. I would hear about her life from my brother, Bruce,
who works for Refax; the good times and the sad times.
We've lost a Good One.
But her gifts will keep on giving.

Sometime last year, Jean walked up to me after church and introduced herself. She told me how pretty Sissy looked as she wriggled and whined on my hip. She gave me a knowing look, mentioned her large brood and admonished me that "they grow up so quickly". She introduced me to the idea of planting flowers at the church and later told me that she was proud of what the team and I had been able to do at the Children's Church entrance. She was truly a great encourager! I had the pleasure of working with her on the church Christmas decorations. Her eyes would dance behind her brilliant smile when talking about how best to reflect the joy of Christ during the season. She would send detailed text messages to rally her troops and then guiding us in getting the actual job done. I remember wanting to put Christmas lights on the cross. What a goofy idea, and she certainly could have shot it immediately out of the air. She didnt. She paused. Considered. She reminded me that the wooden cross in our sanctuary would be the centerpiece for Easter in the Spring. She was so gracious. I immediately blushed because she was right, BUT my feelings weren't hurt because Jean handled others with grace. In the short time that I knew her, that was a consist piece of her persona. Great grace. As we continue on without her in this life, may we honor her legacy as a woman of God by being slow to speak, quick to listen and steadfast in demonstrations of love. I will miss you sweet Jean. Until we meet again somewhere around God's altar!
