Jim and I go way back. Jim would always take or return a call. When asked a legal question, Jim would not hesitate to give an answer without charge (or requiring an appointment which would lead to a charge). The free legal advice is rarely given by lawyers but he was consistent in offering it. And he would almost always find a way to offer a compliment about something. He new the law or would do the research needed to offer informed advice. He was a great person.

Jim was a lovely man. I worked at Ticor Title on Main Street and Jim would come in to use our copy machine once in a while. We never charged him but he was generous and he would give us money anyway. We put it in a special envelope marked, “Bielefeld Money”. When business got hectic one of us would take the envelope and buy candy for the office. His praises were never sung so high as when the person bought chocolate! An office full of women needed lots of chocolate! God love Jim.
Ray Golarz left a message on August 15, 2020:
I first met Jim in the seminary. A classmate and I had found a javelin in the seminary basement and were out on the athletic field trying it out. This college guy that we did not know came jogging by, stopped and said. "Can I try that?" We said "sure." He went back some 20 yards and then rapidly ran to us. When he reached us he threw. He threw with the grace and elegance of an Olympic athlete though he had never thrown before. i never forgot that. I have in my life not known many men as athletic, nor as kind, nor as genuine. Jim was always one of my heroes and much like the big brother I never had. I will miss him. But if there is an athletic field up there somewhere I know that he and my younger brother Joe will be playing something. I hope only that they save a spot for me.
