Helen Talaga

HELEN TALAGA (nee MOMOT) 91 of Traverse City MI formerly of Merrillville IN passed away Saturday February 20 2010. Survivors include her daughter Bonnie (Walter) Nawrocki Northglen CO. daughter-in-law Mary Talaga of Kewadin MI formerly of Michigan City IN six grandchildren 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Edward Talaga her son Dr. Thomas Talaga a sister Sophie Szczepaniak and a brother Ted Momot. Mrs. Talaga was born November 11 1918 and spent her childhood in Gary IN. In 1938 she married Edward Talaga with whom she owned and managed Talagas Food Mart in Gary for more than 20 years. Mrs. Talaga was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Madam Curie Circle PNA Lodge 3134. She was a wonderful wife mother and grandmother whose contagious energy and sense of humor made even the most mundane tasks seem like fun. A generous woman who treated friends like family and always had one of her signature soups ready to serve. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 A.M. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel and 12:00 P.M. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church (5885 Harrison St. Merrillville) with Rev. Roy Beeching officiating. At rest Calumet Park Cemetery Merrillville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimers Association.
