George Horace Hopper, Sr., age 90, of Merrillville, IN, was born on March 9, 1933 and passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023. George Horace Hopper, Sr., age 90, of Merrillville, IN, was born on March 9, 1933 and passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023.
George is survived by his children: Sherri (Steve) Hopper Ortiz, Marlyss (Kevin) Hopper Coats, Lisa Hopper Edwards, George H. (Paulette) Hopper, Jr. and Jeffrey Schutz; his adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Lucille Bennett and Cathy Schutz; and many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Jane Schutz Hopper; son, Ronald Schutz; parents: Edward and Ardelle Hopper; four brothers: Robert, John, Arthur and Maurice; five sisters: Hazel, Marian, Jeanie, Elizabeth “Betty” and Laura.
George served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He owned and operated Quality Drywall and eventually Hopper Construction along with Schutz & Hopper Realty. George was a member of the VFW and was post commander of Post 6921 from 1966-1967. George loved mushroom hunting, fishing, bowling, playing Santa and hosting feasts for his family and friends. Above all, he cherished Mary Jane, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 10:00 am until the time of Funeral Service at 12:00 pm with Pastor Danno Lambert officiating.
Entombment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
