Evelyn L. Storey

EVELYN LOUISE HOOCHIE MAMASTOREY age 87 of Merrillville IN passed away peacefully in her granddaughters arms with her grandson and their spouses at her bedside February 20 2006 at Colonial Nursing and Rehab. She was born on July 29 1918 in Normantown IL to Edward and Elizabeth LizzieTrent. She was the last of eleven children eight girls and three boys and also the last to survive. On June 30 1935 she married Alvin DidHomer Storey a marriage that lasted 60 years and produced three children. They moved from Joliet IL to Gary IN where they spent most of their married life. They then moved to Benton KY followed by Lady Lake FL. Evelyn made as many friends as you could possibly fit into 87 years. She enjoyed plastic cross-stitch games (cards dice cribbage) word-search or crosswords fishing traveling and was known to be The Master Teller of Dirty Jokes. She delighted in performing in the annual talent show put on by the senior residents of her Ahepa Phase #3 Apartment complex where she resided for 8 years. Evelyns life took a turn when she lost her husband Alvin to cancer in March 1995. She moved to Merrillville IN to be closer to family and within the same year her devoted son Ted was tragically taken by cancer in January of 1996. She never really recovered but she moved on. She was a strong woman and she amazingly overcame many setbacks. Evelyn was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law JoAnn Chickie(Bachich) Storey granddaughter Dawn Marie Storey and many other family members. She leaves behind to grieve and remember her eight grandchildren: Brenda (Garry) Mikolics of Merrillville Ted (Kris) Storey of Valparaiso Bret (Tina) Storey of Portage Brian (Angie) Storey of London England Gwen and Erin Storey of Schererville Julie Storey and Kelly Cowan of St. Louis MO twelve great-grandchildren: Ashley and Jonathan Craig Hayley and Emily Mikolics Heather and Ryan Storey Lucy Sam Sophie and Elizabeth LibbyStorey Austin and Paige Seymour a daughter MaryAnn (Tom) Raab of Chicago brother-in-law Don Slightom daughter-in-law Judith (late Ted) Storey of Weaver AL numerous loving nieces and nephews dear friends at the Ahepa Apartments dedicated friends Ignacio (Nachez) and Regina Mendez the sincerely compassionate staff at Colonial who cannot be thanked enough and a son Gary Storey. A memorial service will be held Tuesday February 28 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Cemetery in Joliet IL (per Evelyns request) with Pastor George Knapp officiating. Internment of cremated remains to follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery Joliet IL where she will be buried beside her husband. Pruzin Brothers Funeral and Cremation Service in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers contributions to the family or a charity of your choice in Evelyns name would be greatly appreciated. Grandma we love you and we will miss you very much. Your suffering is finally over and you are now being held in someone elses loving arms.
