Susan Garrison left a message on November 13, 2008:
We had the opportunity to live next door to Gene and Ann for eight years. We fell in love with them almost immediately. Unfortunately we had to move away this past summer. Gene always treated us so kindly and I will forever miss his wonderful stories.
Judge Gregory A Smith left a message on November 11, 2008:
Uncle Gene, the last of the Smith boys. He and Uncle Forest always seemed to be the jokesters of this bunch of hard headed Irishmen. I know I can still remeber realizing for the first time that my Dad, whom I looked up to, looked up to Uncle Gene and his big brothers. The stories of being thrown into deep water as swimming lessons or diving off of strip pit walls holding on to large rocks to go all the way to the bottom, or jumping off of the porch roof at your older brothers suggestion onto a bicycle seat because they did it in the cowboy movies with horses Dad said he missed!!, and the stories of fixing food so no one else could possibly eat it, are all with me today, and Dad always said the letters from Gene and Owen during the war were inspirational to him. I know he is with the Smith gang again, and I'm sure still catching up on old times. He will be missed by this nephew.
