Daniel H McGrory, age 74, of Crown Point, IN, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on May 1, 2021.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Maria (nee Cardenas) McGrory; daughters, Krissy (Jamie) Jonas, Maggie (Robert) Tortolano and Patricia Chavez-Columbo; niece Gina (Christopher) Martinez; grandsons: Nolan, Nathan, Jaxon, Colin, Cooper; and granddaughters: Olivia, Gia and Penelope.

He is preceded in death by his parents: William and Harriet McGrory; sister, Ann Purnell; and brother, William McGrory.

Dan was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 4, 1946. He graduated from Thornton High School and went on to earn a degree from Moraine Valley Community College.

A Navy veteran, Dan was a nurse for 42 years working at Jackson Park’s emergency room and in the recovery room at South Shore Hospital in Chicago, where he cared for others in their time of need. He enjoyed spending time with his family with gatherings at his home and lake house over the years to share laughter, memories, and most importantly his mischievous jokes. Later in life he enjoyed spending time tending to his vegetable garden with his wife, and they would later enjoy the fruits of their labor through her outstanding cooking. Watching his grandchildren grow, taking out the pontoon boat, and learning new skills like woodworking were some of the greatest joys for Dan and the life he had created for his family. He will be missed by all who loved him, especially for the levity he brought to many occasions usually with a song and a smile.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM, at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307.
