She was born on Oct. 23, 1959, in South Bend, Indiana, to Leo and Bernice (Katz) Tolchinsky. Her parents and her brother, Dean, preceded her in death. Caryn married Don Glossinger, the love of her life, on Nov. 28, 1981, in Michigan City. He survives, as well as her beloved son, Micah (Irene) Glossinger; sister, Sheila Ito of Michigan City; and sister-in-law, Donna Tolchinsky of Fall River, Massachusetts. A 1977 Rogers High graduate, she received an Associate of Applied Science degree from La Porte Business College in 1981. Caryn worked for years as a library assistant at Purdue North Central, and as an administrative clerical staff member at Michigan City Area Schools. A member of Sinai Temple, Caryn was a past president of Sinai Sisterhood. She was well known as the Kugel Lady, quite active in Sinai's social and fundraising events, and could always be found in the kitchen, especially on Deli Day. Caryn loved and cared about all the dogs. She adored the birds, especially the big ones. She got great enjoyment from rides in Beverly Shores to look for herons, egrets and sandhill cranes. She was always the first person to be there for anyone that needed. Her smile and contagious laugh welcomed everyone into whatever kitchen she was working in. I learned how to be a more loving, giving, and thoughtful person through her graceful example, not to mention a better cook. Her memory is truly a blessing to our household.
