Barbara Vazanellis (nee Hohou), age 89, of Portage, IN, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021.

Barbara is survived by her children: Sylvia Trikilis and George Vazanellis; grandchildren: Vera (Victor) Hinojosa and Nicholas Vazanellis; great-grandchild, Armando Victor Hinojosa; many nieces, nephews and god-children in the U.S., Australia and Greece.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Vazanellis; parents: Alexandros and Despina Hohou; brothers: Stelios (Varvara) Hohou, Kuriakos (Chrysanthe) Hohou, Michael (Evangelia) Hohou; sisters: Irene Hohou, Chrysafina (George) Karayiannis and Fedra (Manolis) Rentopoulos.

Barbara met her loving husband, Nicholas, in Australia where the married and had 2 beautiful children. They eventually migrated to the U.S. in 1967. Barbara worked as a seamstress for over 70 years in the U.S. and Australia. She loved knitting, crossword puzzles, hosting family events and playing poker with family and friends.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with Trisagion Prayer Service at 5:00 PM.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 DIRECTLY at Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison St. Merrillville, IN 46410 with Fr. Dimitri Burikas and Fr. Ted Poteres officiating. Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
