Barbara S Gipson

Date of Death: October 12, 2020

Barbara S. Gipson made her transition on Monday, October 12, 2020 at the age of 75 after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis and leukemia. Barb was surrounded by her loved ones, including her husband of the past 55 years, Nathaniel Gipson.

Barbara was born on March 31, 1945 in Michigan City, IN to Walter S. Dana and Doris Hoglund Dana. Barbara was baptized at Trinity Episcopal on May 17, 1947. She attended Michigan City area schools up until late in her high school years when she relocated to Vero Beach, FL and graduated from Vero Beach High School. After high school, Barbara moved back to the Midwest and attended Western Illinois. She then moved to Chicago and began working downtown. She eventually moved back to Michigan City and worked for over 20 years at The News-Dispatch.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Nathaniel, her two daughters Gayle Gipson, Lansing, IL and Melissa McCollum (Rodney), Avon, IN, her sister Cynthia Sacks (Joel), Cincinnati, OH, and four grandkids, Jada, Myles, Camryn and Carsyn along with a number of nieces and nephews. Barbara also leaves behind her best friend of over 30 years, Sara Fenton.

Prayers and Condolences to the family

I first met Barb in the Rehab Unit at Franciscan Hospital on Wabash St. I was there recovering from a stroke. We ate 3 meals a day together for a few weeks. She was such a positive woman with a wonderful sense of humor..always cheering me on.. She was one of my inspirations for learning to walk and talk again. I will never forget her kindness and her beautiful and easy smile. She talked about her family often. She was so proud of all of you. God bless her and you.
