Watch Video TributeAnthony (Tony) Kordys entered into eternal peace on February 20, 2015 at the age of 91. Tony was born on June 9, 1923, the eldest son of John and Mary Kordys. In 1948, Tony married the love of his life, Catherine Guzik. Tony and Catherine were blessed with five children. They were married for 53 wonderful years before Catherine’s passing in 2001. Tony proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a dedicated employee at American Bridge Company for 33 years where he excelled at his trade of welding. He then continued his craft at Union Tank Company and Pullman Standard. Tony enjoyed spending time with friends. He was an active member of American Legion Post 207, Silver Bell Lodge #2365, and Gary Sportsmen Club. Tony always referred to his family as his greatest accomplishment in life. He is survived by four children: Joyce (Larry) Hau, Ron (Susan) Kordys, Marleen (Ron) Makis, and Denise (Ted) Brzek; seven grandchildren, Kevin (Jenny) Kruse, Kimberly (Eric) Miller, David (Sabrina) Kordys, Ryan Makis, Jordan and Jenna Makis, and Brittany Brzek; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sisters: Helen (Walter) Korotky, Lillian (Armand) Lopez, Bernice (late John) Szmutko, Shirley (Tom) Bobin; brother, Stanley Kordys. Preceded in death by infant son, Norbert; sister, Vern Dobis; brothers: Joseph, John, and Leonard Kordys. Tony was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Friends and family may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service, 6360 Broadway, Merrillville on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Silver Bell service at 3:30 p.m., and Legion Post 207 service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY from St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 500 Northgate Dr., Dyer, with Deacon Phil Muvich officiating. There will be one half-hour of visitation beginning at 9:30 at church prior to services . Tony will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.
