Memory Bear Day

Memory BearGeisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre offers a new program called "Memory Bear". This special Bear is handmade from the clothing worn by a loved one who has died and contains a wooden heart with the name of the loved one.

Families are invited to attend a Memory Bear Day, held at Geisen Funeral, Cremation and Reception Centre - Crown Point, IN. Volunteers are present to help each family; cut, sew and stuff their bear...at no cost. The only item the family needs to supply is clothing of their deceased loved one. The Memory Bear will be created from these fabrics.

A Memory Bear is a thoughtful way to remember a loved one and will be treasured by whoever receives this precious gift.

If you or some one you know would like to participate or volunteer in a Memory Bear Day, please contact Beverly Huber, Geisen Funeral, Cremation, & Reception Centre at 219-663-2500.

The next Memory Bear Day is: October 16th, 2010
You must register in advance to attend.

New Merrillville Location!

Larry and Kim Geisen, owners of the Geisen Funeral, Cremation and Reception Centres' in Crown Point and Hebron have purchased from cousin, Scott Geisen, the Geisen Funeral Home, located on Broadway in Merrillville, on November 1st, 2008. It is important to me to keep the business in the family, says Scott, so Larry and I worked together to make the acquisition happen.

I look forward to working with all the families, community organizations, ministers and churches in the Merrillville and surrounding area, says Larry. People want to know the owner of the business that they are dealing with, therefore it is very important I interact with the families we serve. After all, that is my name on the sign out front. I am proud to be a 5th generation funeral director. Everyday I come to work I see the portraits of my dad, grandfather, great, and great, great grandfather, and it reminds me of my family's 142 year old commitment to funeral service.

After a winning battle with cancer, Scott decided to be pro-active in his succession planning and has decided to sell the operation to me, says Larry. The Merrillville Geisen Funeral Home is one of the area's largest funeral homes with hundreds of parking spaces and large visitation and funeral chapels, capable of handling any size funeral service. I am pleased to mention that long time funeral directors, Alexis Thanos and Ron Mesarch, with 18 and 35 years tenure, as well as, Marcia Gima, office manager with over 15 years of service at the funeral home, will continue to serve the families of Merrillville, says Larry Geisen.

We will continue to be the area's most innovative funeral homes. We were the first funeral home to offer "Celebration of Life" video tributes and a website with online obituaries. The Crown Point location is the first to offer a 2400 square foot Reception Centre for funeral luncheons and visitation dinners. We have a state-of-the-art Human Crematory, as well as, our Pet Crematory within the Crown Point facility. We also offer monuments, markers and Advance Funeral Planning.

I look forward to the continued success of the Merrillville Chapel along with our other locations in Crown Point and Hebron. I am committed to the professionalism that funeral service stands for and represents.

The Hebron Location:

Larry & Kim Geisen, owners of the Geisen Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Crown Point are pleased to announce the purchase of the Bob Lang Funeral Home, 624 N. Main St. Hebron, IN (owned by Family Service Group out of Springfield, IL). The purchase was finalized on March 10, 2004.

"In the last decade or so, there have been numerous name and ownership changes in Hebron and Kim and I are proud to bring local ownership and a well respected familiar name with over 137 years of history in funeral service back to the Hebron community. The other Family service Group Bob Lang funeral homes located in Demotte, Wheatfield and Kankakee Valley were not included due to the very small number of funerals performed at those locations" said Larry.

I am looking forward to working with the growing Hebron community and getting involved in local business, Larry Geisen says. Our mission is to provide each family we serve the opportunity to celebrate their loved ones life in a unique and meaningful way. Whether it be with a personalized remembrance video tribute showing photographs of their loved one at special times or helping a family display personal items for a memory table to show guests.

In addition to providing traditional funeral services, we also specialize in creating meaningful cremation service options, including a wide selection of urns, cremation jewelry and keepsakes. We also provide a wide selection of quality caskets, vaults and monuments all which can be personalized.

For those individuals wishing to remove the burden of making arrangements at a time of stress and grief, we offer advanced funeral planning and pre-funding.
